Evening hot air balloon ride on Wednesday 1st September 2010

On the glorious summer afternoon of Wednesday 1st September our launchsite at Bluebell Road, Norwich was once again the meeting place for sixteen passengers all anticipating their hot air balloon ride, with their spectators present to see them off on the journey of a lifetime.

With the first of the safety briefings complete, passengers were taken to the basket for a basket briefing. Here they learnt how to climb in and out of the basket, what to expect during their flight, and more importantly the landing positions. Once this was completed the passengers climbed out and the basket was tipped onto its side. The crew then attached the envelope and with the help of passengers spread it out wide on the ground.

Our large blue hot air balloon G-CENX was soon inflated and standing proudly above her basket awaiting her passengers. Passengers were called to board and with final safetly checks complete, G-CENX rose into the early evening sky.

Sailing through the late summer air, the views of  the south west of Norwich were superb, later replaced by equally magnificent scenes of the Norfolk countryside. Powered only by the wind and the odd blast from the burners G-CENX drifted silently over the villages of Ketteringham, Silfield and Spooner Row before landing amongst some straw bales in a field on the edge of Besthorpe. Our crew soon had the balloon neatly packed away with the help of our passengers, who then enjoyed a glass of chilled Champagne whilst receiveing their commemorative flight certificates from their pilot.

‘Really enjoyable evening - a must in a lifetime’ C Randlesome.

‘Worth the wait - I’ll be talking about it for ages’ Amanda Frost.
